Divisible by Anything Calculator
Every whole number is divisible by 1 and by itself. A number is "divisible by anything" else only if it has other divisors: 34 is divisible by 1, 2, 17 and 34. A number with no divisors except 1 and itself, like 19, is a prime number.
Enter any whole number up to 1,000,000 to list every number it divides by, with the working.
Is it divisible by anything?
How to find every number a number is divisible by
A number a is divisible by b when a ÷ b leaves no remainder. Divisors always come in pairs that multiply to the number, so you only need to test up to its square root.
- Write down 1 and the number itself. They are always divisors.
- Test 2, 3, 4 and so on, up to the square root of the number. Use the divisibility rules below to test quickly.
- Every time a test number divides evenly, write down it and its partner (number ÷ test number).
- If you found nothing except 1 and the number, it is prime.
Divisibility rules
| Divisible by | Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | The last digit is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) | 334 |
| 3 | The digits add up to a multiple of 3 | 246: 2 + 4 + 6 = 12 |
| 4 | The last two digits make a multiple of 4 | 500: 00 |
| 5 | The last digit is 0 or 5 | 25 |
| 6 | Divisible by both 2 and 3 | 246 |
| 8 | The last three digits make a multiple of 8 | 10,000: 000 |
| 9 | The digits add up to a multiple of 9 | 36: 3 + 6 = 9 |
| 10 | The last digit is 0 | 500 |
| 11 | Alternately add and subtract the digits; the result is 0 or a multiple of 11 | 22: 2 − 2 = 0 |
Worked examples
Is 34 divisible by anything?
34 is even, so it is divisible by 2: 34 ÷ 2 = 17. 17 is prime, so the divisors of 34 are 1, 2, 17 and 34.
Is 25 divisible by anything?
25 ends in 5, so it is divisible by 5: 25 ÷ 5 = 5. The divisors are 1, 5 and 25.
Is 19 divisible by anything?
Test 2, 3 and 4 (the square root of 19 is about 4.4). None divide evenly, so 19 is prime: only 1 and 19.
Is 1027 divisible by anything?
It is not divisible by 2, 3, 5, 7 or 11, but 1027 ÷ 13 = 79. The divisors are 1, 13, 79 and 1027, so 1027 is not prime.

Frequently asked questions
- What does "divisible by anything" mean?
- It asks whether a number has any divisors other than 1 and itself. If it does, it is a composite number; if it doesn't, it is a prime number.
- Is every number divisible by 1?
- Yes. Every whole number is divisible by 1 and by itself. 1 itself has only one divisor, so it is neither prime nor composite.
- How far do I need to test?
- Only up to the square root. If 97 had a divisor bigger than 9.8, its partner would be smaller than 9.8 and you would already have found it.
- What is the difference between divisors and factors?
- They are the same thing for whole numbers. See them listed in pairs with the factor pairs calculator.
